UMD’s QASU (Queer and Allied Student Union) approached me for the design of a new logo for their organization to be used for brand identity and merchandizing purposes. The logo was carefully planned to best represent the organization, and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. The rainbow color pallet was selected as it is well known to be associated with the LGBTQ+ community, while the gender symbols specifically show support for the Trans/Intersex/Two-Spirit and other genderqueer identities. Triangles were used as part of the imagery of the logo in reference to the pink triangle used by Germans during the Holocaust to identify Queer individuals but has since been reclaimed during AIDS activism in the 80s and 90s. The finished design works well to represent all groups of people QASU serves, with a professional but colorful logo.
