CLIMBING DESIGNS

This series of projects began with a redesign of UMD’s Crux Ducks climbing team logo. Parameters were to create a logo that could be used on social media sites, as well as team merchandise such as shirts, tank tops, stickers, water bottles, etc. Previous logos had included ducks as a prominent part of the team’s identity, including one that had been retired of a Donald the Duck-esque figure, but with large and prominent muscles. Being as the team is from Duluth, and the World’s largest Rubber Duck frequents their harbor, I decided to use a similar face in the finished design but keep the musculature (albeit in a new pose) of an older design. The contrast between the cute face but strong body brought a humor to the design that fit with the Crux Ducks team energy, and they were excited and pleased with the finished result.

Two designs for the North Shore Climbers team, on the left is a grigri with climbing cams and rope in a rectangle. On the right, in a grid, are 11 different climbing equipment pieces (shoes, chalk back, rope, belay device, harness, cams, grigri, etc.) and the words "North Shore Climbers established 1978, the Crux is believing"
